WordPress stands first in the crowd as a blogging platform because of its awesome functionality.WordPress gives us the opportunity to change its default language to our local language.In this quick tutorial we will learn how to install WordPress in your local language.So don’t late start quickly with me.
Application:WordPress,Local web server
Time: 30 minutes
Step1:Some steps before installing WordPress in Bengali
I am guessing you know how to install WordPress generally so i will help you how to change the default WordPress language which is English.Ok fist download WordPress from its motherland.
Step2:Download required files
Now it’s time to download some files that will be responsible for changing the language of your site.Now at this time when i am writing this article most of the languages have their own localized version of WordPress.But every version use one simple file with .mo extension for changing the language.When i am writing this article WordPress has been translated into more than 80 languages.So go WordPress language repository and choose your language and download your language file.If your language have its own localized version than you have nothing to worry.Just like china have its own localized version of WordPress,So if you want to change your language into china you don’t have to do anything but download the localized version WordPress from here and install it.You don’t have to worry if you don’t have your language fully localized.Go to WordPress language repository and download the right file for your language.Here i am using Hong Kong’s language to show you how to use different language for your site in WordPress.So go to Hong kong’s WordPress language file’s land and download file with .mo extension.In this repository you are more likely to find this file into branches section and inside messages section.Learn more..
Step3:Place WordPress language file in its desired location
If you are working in your local PC just open your WordPress installation folder.And go inside wp-content folder and create a new folder named languages if you don’t have one.And place your downloaded file inside this languages folder.If you are working with a live server just login to your website with ftp client.And open wp-content directory and create a new directory inside this folder and name it languages and upload your language file inside this directory.So your language file location should be something like this wp-content >>languages >>zh_HK.mo.
Step4:Edit your wp-config.php file
/** * WordPress Localized Language, defaults to English. * * Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the chosen * language must be installed to wp-content/languages. For example, install * de_DE.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to 'de_DE' to enable German * language support. */ define('WPLANG', '');
By these lines WordPress gives you the opportunity to tell it about your preferred language.The default language is English.You have to change just one line and it’s the last one.See below
/** * WordPress Localized Language, defaults to English. * * Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the chosen * language must be installed to wp-content/languages. For example, install * de_DE.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to 'de_DE' to enable German * language support. */ define('WPLANG', 'zh_HK');
Here in the last line you can see we added the ISO standard language name to tell WordPress we are using Hong Kong language.If you are using another language just put the ISO standard name inside the citation mark and just save this file.Now if you start installation of WordPress you will see everything in your desired language.
